Care – October was mainly about that. I spent amazing 3 weeks (and staying for 1 week more in November) in a rescue and rehabilitation center for animals in the middle of a nature reserve 3 km outside of Peru´s Tarapoto.
I have described their work and the whole experience in detail in my upcoming post Animal Rehabilitation – how it should be done! (which is still in progress as I need to return to the jungle now and won´t be able to finish it until the 10th of November)
The best part of this stay is that we have released 3 monkeys into the wild during my stay, which is a great result. Think how many animals can be helped and released into the nature at this rate!
We also cooked vegan food all the time, I was eating very well, every day a cooked meal, usually rice with vegetables and soya meat, or quinoa or polenta. Lots of improvization going on, as the resources were limited, but the food was always great!
And in terms of taking care of my self, this month was probably the best – I was doing 200 press ups every day, doing yoga every day (more about that in the Challenge October update) and spent lots of time walking in the jungle and meditating at waterfalls, like this one:
And when I say meditation, I don´t mean really deep stuff, more like sitting on a rock next to a waterfall, quietly, listening to the sounds of the jungle and just breathing deeply. Does wonders for your wellbeing, and frees your mind. I´ve been doing so much thiking afterwards, lots of new ideas and things I want to do.
You should try it too – walk to the nature somewhere away from people, just sit, breath and listen to the sounds around you….
So a month filled with care for animals, meditation and yoga and exercise. Best month so far, will be hard to beat once I hit the road again!
